My Malibu house is perched high on top of an oceanfront bluff on roughly one and a third acres. Of my three homes representing BODY MIND AND SPIRIT, Malibu represents the MENTAL aspects of who I am, as it is clean, linear, and Modern. Most people know me as the designer with the  Romantic, vintage sensibilities. However, few know me as the contemporary Modernist who has a full appreciation for Avante-Garde Modern Art and architecture. I have been an avid collector of a couple of hundred pieces of Modern Art for over twenty years--mostly high-level artists who are my best friends...I deemed it appropriate to support and  to collect my own contemporaries in the Arts...I  created a well-lit white, clean environment with volumes of white walls and high ceilings to house my extensive Modern Art Collection, which opens up to sea, sky,and expansive gardens...

 

The rough-hewn house was originally conceived by its original owners, the Jimenez family in the Southwestern primitive manner. The view is a stunning 180 degree panorama--- the very reason that drew me to the site because of its unparalleled whitewater/ whitesand views. Initially I did a quick renovation on the interior of the house, cleaning up all the Southwestern sensibilities, and created a well-lit white, clean environment with volumes of white walls to house my extensive Art Collection.  However, for all these years, the exterior of the house, which still had its Southwestern elements intact, had not been touched. 

 

I took it upon my self to complete the circle by making a decision to completely renovate the entire house--both on the interiors as well as the exteriors. I felt compelled to change and move the energy of the house,after the end of a long-termed relationship and felt necessary to reclaim my house as my own personal, private, sacred space. I started by changing all the old windows and doorways with the addition of 14 feet sliders throughout the house, thereby opening up the oceanfront to reveal stunning, spectacular views to sun, sea, sky, sand---finally taking full advantage of the dramatic coastline views. 

 

Next, I transformed the existing garages into a gym/ studio with sliders on one side, opening it up to welcome the beautiful oceanfront views. At the other end of the room, it opens up to a private courtyard garden with a fountain within a magnificent cactus garden. Within the enormous inner central courtyard of the hacienda configuration, I'm adding an enormous atrium sitting room, which will have access to the stellar ocean view through the voluminous Living room. A new floor to ceiling fireplace is constructed in the corner of the 20 feet Living Room as well as the addition of a new fireplace in my Master Bedroom. To the side of the renovated Master suite will be my Secret Garden, which includes an elevated deck and a waterfall, and a circular Jacuzzi, which will afford an exquisite view of the ocean.
